Assistant for a Day – Ohio Portrait Photography

I recently had the immense privilege of assisting Hunter Harrison of H Squared Photo for the day on a portfolio building photo shoot for two Ohio models.  I became like a kid in a candy store who finds the joy in life after it has been missing!  I really LOVE being a photographer but what I love the most is assisting and second shooting for other photographers!  It’s not because of the learning potential, though that is good – it’s the ability to help other people out for a day and see a different side (often times) of a business that can become stale if you don’t try to mix it up once in a while.  I hope I have many more opportunities, like Hunter gave me, in the future!

Here’s my behind the scenes look at the shoot that took place in Lakewood, Ohio. Check here and here and here and here for a few of Hunter’s professional images of Kelsie.  Makeup: Kristen Justine

BONUS: Hunter took what is now one of my favorite pictures of me ever.  And it was almost a goof – in the sense that we only took the photo as a lighting test!  Now that’s some talent.  Thanks Hunter!!!

Chelsea’s Story – Think Pink Portrait Session

Here’s the deal: I hate cancer.  (Breast cancer in particular, having had personal experience with it.)  It used to be that I’d hear the “C word” and get upset.

Until I met Chelsea.  (Don’t get me wrong, I still hate cancer.  I always will.)

Chelsea isn’t a victim.  Chelsea is a survivor.  Chelsea has kicked cancer’s ass.  Chelsea gives me hope.  Knowing Chelsea has taught me there is no such thing as a situation too difficult to face AND overcome.  Cancer included, it would seem.

I’ll let the session speak for itself.  We shot these images 1 year to the day after her diagnosis.

And I can’t forget:
* Props to David, Chelsea’s inspiring husband, who has been there by her side through her entire journey and who is clearly…as in love with her as ever.  He was an excellent part of this session and quite willing to do whatever odd thing Chelsea or I asked of him.
* Also, props to the Think Pink Photography Network which brought Chelsea and I together.  I will be forever grateful for their allowing me to be a part of their terrific organization!
* Lastly, thank you to Sarah Ulrich from Uniquely You Designs for the use of her “Survivor” logo.
