This post is in support of the #TakenFromAResort campaign for Iberostar. There are several bloggers taking part but this post represents the experiences of just Danté and I during our early January 2016 trip to Playa Del Carmen.
From the minute we arrived at Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso, welcomed by multiple staff members and known by name, I had a good feeling about our stay at the resort.
Welcome cocktails and a nice chat in the lobby bar continued the goodwill before we were turned over to another staff member and driven to our Butler-serviced suite via a golf cart.
A butler suite? This was my first surprise at Iberostar because while I’ve had that experience at other brands it wasn’t one I expected from what I knew of Iberostar! Our Butler, and his colleagues, were all spectacular and over the course of our stay they saw to every need before we even conceived of it.
The next surprise was the amazing view from our balcony. Our room was right overlooking the beach and close enough to the crashing waves that they were our soundtrack when we decided to nap on the bed or swing on our private porch. For us, there’s nothing better than the waves as the only backdrop sound when in paradise! We loved the quiet. And it allowed us to completely relax.
But when we wanted more action, we simply went to the pool where a choice of multiple hot tubs and a plethora of cabanas serviced by attentive wait staff were all than we needed to truly enjoy the resort.
…Until, we remembered there was a spa! Ok, we LOVE a good spa. It’s a tradition that started early in our relationship, visiting the spa together. So we had to check that out too! And we loved their couple’s treatment room where we each enjoyed a facial and mini massage. In the spa building, is also a large indoor lap pool and more hot tubs. There are no shortage of places to swim at Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso!
Since the food is excellent at the resort and the options are plentiful, a workout swimming laps is something we probably should have taken advantage of! But we opted instead to just enjoy. We also could have opted to take in a show at the theater, there was a different one every night.
Instead, we allowed the concierge to book us excursions that took us into the jungle, allowed us to zipline, to visit cenotes and Mayan ruins, and gave us time to snorkel in the ocean with turtles!
A Mayan shaman began our time in the jungle with a blessing ceremony

Biking through the jungle at the ruins was a particular thrill!
Dante and I under the sea just before seeing turtles!
And then we made ourselves cocktails in our included in-room mini bar and we took a walk along the beach under the stars. And, we took the time to capture a few photos of the resort at night so we’d remember the romantic mood of the buildings draped in twinkle lights with the stars overhead.
Before checking out, we also made time to enjoy the beach chairs and the warm ocean waves. Plus we caught a gorgeous rainbow after a quick shower that chased us back up onto our private balcony.
Maybe it sounds like we didn’t do much, maybe it sounds like we did a lot. For us, Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso was the perfect mix of leisure time and busy time. The resort was quiet and calming in all the ways we wanted it to be. The culinary options were beyond reproach. (We loved the French restaurant with gilded doors that reminded us of our visit to Versailles!)
The staff was attentive and professional. The bed was like an enveloping cloud and the included bar in our room was another fun surprise. The pools were warm and plentiful, our fellow guests were just as chill as we were. The Spa was romantic and the rainbow divine. Everything was more luxurious than we expected and just as serene as we hoped for. We’ll go back. Hopefully next time, for longer!
For us, the memories we took back home with us though are priceless. They’re the best thing we could possibly have taken away from our time in Mexico with Iberostar.
